Tsavo East National Park
Home of the Red Elephants
Tsavo East, Kenya’s largest national park, stretches across a vast semi-arid wilderness bisected by the Galana River. Known for its raw beauty and sense of scale, it offers a true African wilderness experience. The park’s signature red-dust landscapes, framed by baobab trees and distant hills, are home to the famous “red elephants” , so called for their ochre-coated hides. Other wildlife includes lions, giraffes, buffaloes, and a rich variety of plains game. Key highlights include the Yatta Plateau, one of the world’s longest lava flows, and Lugard Falls, where the Galana River cascades over sculpted rocks. Less crowded than other parks, Tsavo East rewards visitors with solitude, expansive horizons, and timeless safari magic, a place where nature remains untamed and encounters feel deeply authentic.
